Setting up Norton Personal Firewall couldn't be easier; the software installs right out of the box without any problems, and the configuration is handled automatically where possible. The program recognizes most installed applications and knows what permissions they need. The remaining software is easy to set-up, too, after which the computer is ready to go again; with proper protection against intruders of all kinds.

The new norton firewall hardly even needs any manual config anymore. It basically sets up itself by analyzing the things you usually do on the internet and the programs you do them with and it applies the appropriate security settings automatically.
Firewalls used to be a pain to configure, this seems to be a thing of the past now. Thank god!

After the simple and straight forward installation process I am introduced to a backup system that is just as simple to handle. They might not be everybody's favorite features, but I find the system overview particularly useful. One glance informs me about drive usage as well as when it's time for the next backup. I am only slowly getting used to the idea that I can just keep working whilst the backup is running.

I refused to use a firewall for a long time because all I saw the last time was warnings and stop signs even while using the most harmless programs. You always had to reconfigure the fw-rules. I saw this one on a pal’s computer and was sold when he told me that it actually learned what to block by itself. I’m using it right now and am very satisfied. It's not as annoying as other fw with their popups about every little thing every couple of minutes, so that's nice. I wanna be safe but I don't wanna be told so every few minutes;).

Actually I don’t want to bother with all that port-security stuff, but I am not naïve. There are way too many whackos out there, so I was told to get the Personal Firewall 2006 because it does most of the configuration by itself. Okay, there are some FWs that do so but it would be useless if I always clicked on the “allow” button when I am asked, here I can get further info about any software that tries to get out or inside and the software even adjusts to my computer-habits. This is way better than some other stuff I saw.
