Good product but as a previous review said you do need to have great upper body strength. I have over 400 feet of hedges to cut and do not want to spend time doing it. this product cut well and had good extention but ***** did it get heavy after 10-15 minutes and I had to keep taking breaks to recover. Don't know how other units compare for this but do more homework. You do not see any in local shops to try before you buy...

All pole cutters are unwieldy by definition, but the build quality and excellent design of this particular tool helps
reduce the down side.
It is so easy to adjust to exactly the cutting angle you need, simply chose one of four click-stops and the blades cut smoothly exactly where you need.
This has been properly engineered.
Yes it is heavy, but if you are reasonably fit then you will find it possible to do a lot of work by taking frequent
rests of just minute or two.
If you need an electric pole cutter buy this one with confidence - I thoroughly reccommend it.

As my standard hedge trimmer (electric) died recently, as part way through the annual hedge cutting, thought I'd go for a telescopic/articulated hedge trimmer as need ladders for my usual hedge trimming and some places its not even enough for a ladder - HSE would freak on how I made my ladder level!
Had approx 30ft of hedging to trim, privet and usually this would take best part of a day, but with the Ryobi 400 cut the top and sides within 2 hrs! Previously had to constantly reposition the ladder - now just re-align the head.
My last made such a racket I wore earing protectors - this one is very quiet, like going from diving an 80's diesel car to a 2010 diesel car!
It will slice through much with ease. Didn't find it a problem to handle - similar to wielding your standard hedge trimmer above your head to reach the high bits without a ladder! Only found the 'dead mans safety switch' sometimes a problem if stopped briefly then tried to re-start, but I guess once familiar it shouldn't be a problem!
Such a style of hedge trimmer is well recommended, as makes hedge trimming a breeze and not the arduous task of before!

The trimmer was quickly delivered to our address and the packaging was in good order.You need quite a long space to put the machine together and a strong grip to turn the threaded collar in order to hold the head in place.This being said it is well worth the effort in order to reach and cut efficiently those hard to reach places that took a ladder and extending loppers to prune before.
The machine is quite heavy to manage but I am over 70 years old - tea breaks are welcome and you can always spread the job over a few days.It is quite amazing to turn round and see how many cuttings have been made in a short time.Unfortunately the machine does not help you to put them in the wheelie bin.
Overall this has been a very worthwhile purchase and my son can't wait until the leaves are off his hedge and he can borrow it.

Exactly what I ordered and wanted. Yes it is quite heavy when fully extended but with a bit of hard work it really does do the business. Good cutter regardelss. Extending very easy and my hedges look so much better.
