4 out of 5 stars Classic Petty   August 26, 2010

Great songwriting, polished, seamless production. The depth in the lyrics and music takes many listenings to appreciate. More Mudcrutch than American Girl. The reggae number is the only flaw otherwise a 5.

5 out of 5 stars No Reason To Cry   August 16, 2010
Attila Hegedüs (Hungary)
Yes, everyone! It's no reason to cry - this album is great, enjoyable to listen. There are very little or no gaps between tracks - they nicely flow into each other. This album is different from other Tom Petty's album. If I want to compare I think Mojo is better than 'Highway Companion' and just as good as 'Wildflowers.' My comments on the songs are as follows:

'Jefferson Jericho Blues' - great opener, however, harmonica a bit annoying
'First Flash Of Freedom' - good song, but unnecessarily long
'Running Man's Bible' - very strong, one of the higlights
'The Trip To Pirate's Cove' - compelling, excellent lyrics
'Candy' - another masterpiece
'No Reason To Cry' - highlight!
'I Should Have Known It' - It rocks!
'US 41' - sounds like a Fleetwood Mac song - not a drawback
'Takin' My Time' - sounds like 'Joe'
'Let Yourself Go' - just a filler
'Don't Pull Me Over' - reggae, masterpiece
'Lover's Touch' - filler no.2
'High In The Morning' - another strong song backed by a great story
'Something Good Coming' - my favourite on the album, sounds like 'Southern Accents'
'Good Enough' - it's more than good enough

5 out of 5 stars Tom changes direction   July 27, 2010
Martin S (london)
This album is a very different sound for Tom Petty and has really shown him in a new light, The lyrics are as strong as anything Tom has written in the past, But this time the sound is bluesy, then a touch of reggae throlwn in too.

Very much a stripped down album in many ways with the feel that it was done in pretty much one take with no over dubs added afterwards, It feels like it could of been a album from years ago and that is another strong point of the whole album.

You may not fully appreciate the album on its first play, But it will grow on you I promise.

Now as other have said can Mr Tom Petty please now tour Europe we need to see you here.

This album is so different from the stuff that got me into Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers that I can't make my mind up about it. It is quality, and the tracks are varied and stylish, but more reflective that what has gone before. I'm giving it a chance though and feel that it will grow on me.

4 out of 5 stars Back to life   July 24, 2010
Richard J. Hillier
A much looser album than recent efforts. The Heartbreakers come alive. It was recorded live in the studio apparently. Tom's always been a great song writer and his craft is on the finest display here.
